Park Jung Min “Not Alone” Press Conference - 18 March 2011
Just last weekend, Park Jung Min hit the shores of Singapore to promote his first solo debut album, “Not Alone”.
The press conference was held at the Ritz Carlton Hotel, where 100 lucky fans were also entitled to enter the press conference location as they purchased the passes.
The press conference started with radio DJ Chen Liyi, addressing the media and the fans on the photo taking requirements.
Shortly after the address, Park Jung Min appeared at the entrance of the press conference room, rousing screams from the fans, and as usual, he warmly greeted the media and the fans with that signature wave and smile of his.
The session started off with questions from the host of the press conference, Liyi.
How does he feel about his fans? I am sure he has met them at the airport last night.
Translator: It is his first time in Singapore. Yesterday he felt that the temperature was so warm, and he felt so welcomed.
PJM: WARM!
Before Singapore, Park Jung Min was in Taiwan. How did he prepare himself for his tour in Asia?
Translator: For his Asian tour, with his release of his new solo album, he is planning to promote his album to various Asian countries, and he also has plans of acting in a drama in Taiwan.
In Singapore and in other parts of Asia, he is promoting his latest album “Not Alone”, there is composition in his album, as well as being involved in song writing. Can he talk more about his composition and song writing?
Translator: Before he released his album and prepared the song writing, he was thinking about how he would best represent himself through this album. He thought that by writing his own songs, he can portray his feelings and inspiration to his fans, thus that is how he got to write all his songs in his new album.
PJM: Good. (Laughter from fans)
And also, I saw the music video “Not Alone”, and I am sure most of the fans will feel the same way as I do. The dance moves in the music video were really cool and it reminds me so much of the dancing in the musicals. What actually inspired you to those dance moves?
Translator: It is not wrong to say that the dance moves actually reminds people about his musical. Some of the choreography came from the musical actors and the ideas came from all the people who were acting in the musical. For the dancers, some of them are musical actors who were actually collaborating with him during the musical, and he appreciates that a lot of people thinks that his dance choreography is very cool.
The questions were then opened to the media.
How does it feel about doing this album all by himself without the other members, is he comfortable or does he feel very stressed?
Translator: He adapts to new situations very well. Even though it’s the first time, promoting the solo album as a solo artiste is not easy, but he is adapting to the whole new different phases very well.
PJM: Very well. (Fans laugh)
What is your birthday wish this year?
Translator: His birthday wish is that he will have a successful album promotional tour, and his 2nd wish will be that he will achieve everything that he wishes for in 2011.
Have you had any difficulty or problems learning Chinese?
Translator: He finds that the pronunciation is very difficult, and Chinese has the 4 different tones, so when it comes to it he finds it very hard to master. Sometimes because of the tone, when someone speaks to him, even though it doesn’t mean anything bad, it seems as though they are scolding him, so he feels a little irritated sometimes. But people around him always try to help him in learning and mastering the language.
PJM: (In Chinese) My teacher is that lady over there (Uproar of laughter from fans)
You have been to a few countries for promotions; would you also visit Indonesia or any other countries for your promotions as well?
Translator: He wants to visit the countries with fans that know him more often, as well as the countries where there are not many fans that are aware of him yet, because he finds it important to promote himself in those countries. He also plans to visit various countries, not just Asia, but the world. There are a lot of fans who tweet to him about it, and he would love to visit them.
You have written three songs for “Not Alone”. Are you changing your image from an idol singer to a singer songwriter?
PJM: Singer Songwriter? (Fans laugh) Alright, alright.
Translator: Now that he is at a stage where he is developing himself not just as an idol singer, but a singer songwriter as well, and also not just as a songwriter, but also an entertainer that can also act. He hopes that everyone can look forward to it and give him the support.
If you have a girl that you like, how would you confess to the girl? By a song or a dance, or any way you like?
Translator: He would try to talk to the girl a lot.
PJM cuts in, trying to clarify in Korean.
Translator: He says that the answer seems a bit off. He likes a girl who is very warm hearted. He would like to talk to the girl and share more of his feelings to her.
What is your inspiration behind your song writing?
Translator: It’s a little hard to say exactly where he gets his inspiration from because he really gets his inspiration from the tune and melody itself, so when he listens to the melody of the song, he just starts imagining the lyrics, the possible lyrics to write in the song.
How do you think you have changed since you’ve went solo?
Translator: Ever since he started working as a solo artiste, he feels that he is able to show more about Park Jung Min himself to the fans and to everyone who is listening to his song out there. It was more on his self-development and he thanks all of you for the support.
I caught a video of you on a Korean Entertainment show, and I am very amazed that he has this talent of rolling his toes and hopping and walking on it. When did he discover that he has this special talent?
After translator translated the question:
PJM: So it’s like this.. (In Korean)
Translator: He thought that everyone can do it. You can do it too.
PJM: You can do it too. Jia you!
Everyone knows that you have a flair for your languages; what is the next language you would like to learn?
Translator: He is very fluent in Korean and Japanese, but when it comes to Mandarin and English, he feels like a little bird in the language. He is working on English and Mandarin right now. Maybe after he has figured these two languages, he may go into learning Spanish and French.

PJM: About it?

During the course of your career, what would you define as the most exciting or most “Woohoo!” kind of moments?
Translator: He had 2 moments. The first moment which he felt most “Woohoo” about was the moment when SS501 first debut and where they had their first fan meeting. That was the most exciting moment he had during his career. The second moment was recently after he released his solo album and when he first performed his first solo song. That was another one of his most exciting moments.
PJM: Woohoo!
The press conference was a light hearted session, with Park Jung Min spontaneously posing to the cameras from time to time, and actively conversing in Chinese and English trying his best to lighten the atmosphere and create an enjoyable session for the media and the fans.
We would like to thank Sony Music Singapore and Woohoo! Experience for bringing Park Jung Min to Singapore, also, to Ritz Carlton Singapore for providing the venue for the press conference and photo taking session.
